Find out exactly how much rain falls with this remote rain gauge, a component of the Oregon Scientific weather station. Friends and relatives in different parts of the country can each set up their own system and compare—-does Seattle or Boston receive more annual rainfall? The durable plastic cylinder with wire-screen top measures 5-3/4 inches high and 4-1/2 inches in diameter at the base, and it can be securely anchored to a deck or other outdoor fixture. A cable attached to the rain gauge plugs into its own small solar-powered transmitter (batteries for backup included), which in turn sends data to the main unit of the weather station (sold separately). The weather station is programmable to display readings in inches or millimeters, and measures daily and cumulative rainfall and rainfall rate. While a three-month warranty covers defects, the station should give years of pleasure to storm lovers. --Ann Bieri The Rain Gauge measures the total amount and rate of rainfall and transmits the data to the base unit from up to 300 feet away. The Rain Gauge features a self-emptying collection unit. It is powered by a solar cell with battery backup. This Rain Gauge is designed to be used with the Oregon Scientific Wireless Weather Station (WMR112A)
